The black/gray blocks indicate the time for a shotgun match. You cannot play full 9 holes/18 holes before the time of the match. You may, however, enter the course provided you leave the course in time before the shotgun begins.

The same black/gray blocks are used for blocking in the course, think of mowing blocks of the greenkeepers or course closure.

The yellow/orange ones concern competitions or groups. If you hover the mouse over the corresponding area you will see more information about which match/group. This includes the buffer before and after a match.
